Another Premier League weekend is finished and there has been a mixture of shock results, and some more expected ones.
This matchweek has given us plenty to talk about: last minute winners, controversial goals, comfortable wins and uncomfortable truths for some teams.

With it being the first time I am writing one of these articles I will go over how I rank these performances.
How I rank players will not be purely focussed on goal and assists, although they do help, but through a range of different factors, a teams performance, the particular players influence on the game and key moments from the match will all impact the outcome. I am also going to try to limit these lists to one player per team, as writing about one great result over and over again would become a very boring read.
With these rankings please keep in mind I cannot watch every single game in a weekend, although I do my best to, so take these rankings with a pinch of salt.

5. ELLIOT ANDERSON – MANCHESTER CITY
   Midfielder | Manchester United (a) | 0-1 win

It may not have been the way that Manchester City wanted to win the game, but any win in the Manchester derby will feel like a sweet one.
After going down a man in the 23rd minute Man City faired surprisingly well against the Red Devils. Limiting their threat – until the last minute opportunity from Mbeumo the home side struggled to get into any promising areas.
There are two big talking points in this game, being the red card and the controversial Haaland goal, and Anderson wasn’t involved in either.
What he was involved in for the rest of the match, the English international eliminated a lot of United’s midfield threat throughout the game, not that it came in abundance after City went down to 10 men,
Anderson covered more ground than anyone else in the game, had more defensive contributions than anyone else and wasn’t dispossessed throughout the game.
After going down to 10 men it’s this kind of solid performance you need to come out on top.

4. KEVIN SCHADE – BRENTFORD
   Attacker | Bournemouth (a) | 2-2 draw

Kevin Schade continued his good start to the season, two goals on Saturday was always going to get the German on this list.
It was a game where Bournemouth once again dropped points while ahead, and you felt were the slightly better side on the day, having 10 shots on target but Brentford, Schade really, were clinical when they needed to be – scoring with both of their shots on target.
His first goal coming from a header inside the box and his second was him capitalising on an error from Petrovic 10 minutes into the second half, a very deft finish from outside the box to bring the Bees back level. You could argue the keeper could do better for both of these goals, but the German was there to take advantage, what more could you ask for from your winger?
His pace was a threat all afternoon and with almost 11km covered the winger had the work rate to match it.
His strikes represent a continued unbeaten start to the season for Brentford, albeit with three draws in there, as they look to build on last campaign where they missed out on Europe by goal difference only.

3. PASCAL GROSS
   Midfielder | Coventry (a) | 0-5 win

There was always going to be a Brighton player on this list after their performance this weekend and Pascal Gross is my pick of the bunch.
Brighton dominated the game from start to finish and their away performance was the exact performance you want if you were watching your side away from home, clinical, controlling the game and Verbruggen making some great saves when he was called into action.
The German was everywhere in their 5-0 win, literally, he covered more ground than any other player and had more touches than anyone else.
His passing was nothing to be sniffed at either, six chances created with two assists, setting up the first and fifth goal for the Seagulls.
The third Brighton goal was his when he stepped up for a confidently taken penalty.
The 35 year old builds on his solid start to the season and proving once again how valuable he is to this Brighton team after his return this January.

2. MOHAMED BELLOUMI
   Attacker | Chelsea (a) | 2-2 draw

Hull are another team where there’d be one of their players on this list. Their 2-2 draw away at Stamford Bridge was extremely well earned.
The most impressive thing about this game for Hull, and the same could be said about their other games this season, is that the wins aren’t just “smash and grab” where they score a lucky goal and then sit back. They have actually earned all their wins and on Saturday arguably had the better chances and will be disappointed not to walk away with all three points.
Belloumi struck twice in the game, both in the first half and although he only played for 60 minutes but he definitely made his mark on the game
He has really taken to the Premier League and opened his account for the season here.
His first goal came after Hato misjudged a ball put into the box and Belloumi fired it confidently home on the half volley, his second coming just six minutes later after a scramble in the box after a corner led to the ball rolling the the edge of the area, which the Algerian took on and scored after a deflection from a Chelsea defender.
As mentioned above the winger has impressed through the start of the season – supplying their goal which beat Coventry and a good defensive performance last week against Aston Villa, showing he can help the Tigers at both ends of the pitch.

1. DOMINIC CALVERT-LEWIN
   Attacker | Newcastle (h) | 4-1 win

Calvert-Lewin is my pick of the bunch for this week, he keeps up his excellent record against Newcastle with eight goals and three assists in 19 games, his best return against any side.
He added to this with a goal and an assist on Monday night. The English international thought he had his first goal of the night in the 34th minute when his header found the back of the net, but the ball deflected off of Jayden Bogle but Calvert-Lewin’s proper goal came just before half time with a well placed header from the middle of the box.
Leeds have had a great start to the season, undefeated in the league so far with two wins and two draws. The two draws coming against Brighton and Brentford who are doing well in their own right.
The Yorkshire side have been in incredible form this calendar year, only losing five league games since the start of 2025 and, I think, should have their sights set on a possible European finish this season.
Calvert-Lewin is a main part of this great form, four goal contributions in his last four games is a great return from the Englishman and he was causing the Newcastle defence problems all night with a mixture of his physicality, smart hold up play and runs in behind and always seemed to have the beating of Botman across the 90 minutes.
